"Impressive and Fantastic"; Minister of Transport Impressed by Fab Yard

The Honorable Federal Minister of Transport Senator Idris Umar, along with the Permanent Secretary Federal Ministry of Transport, Engr. Nebolisa Emodi on Sunday, February 16th paid an official visit to KAZTEC ENGINEERING LIMITED (KEL), a subsidiary of Chrome Group, at their massive fabrication facility located on Snake Island Lagos in what used to be dominated by impenetrable thick forest and swamp land.

Senator Umar and his team of experts and engineers witnessed for the first time the bodacious and rapid environmental transformation undertaken by KAZTEC, inspired by the vision of its ebullient founder Sir Emeka Offor and driven by the desire to develop a regional center of excellence providing engineering design, procurement, fabrication, installation and project delivery management of oil & gas facilities.

KAZTEC is a 100% indigenous Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Installation, Commissioning and Management (EPCIC-M) provider. Incorporated in 2005 and nudged on by the local content bill enacted into law by President Jonathan Goodluck, KAZTEC has emerged as the pace setter and a benchmark for EPCIC-M providers in Nigeria and in West Africa.

The Commercial Director for Kaztec Marc Robillard received the Minister and his entourage who were then ferried over from the jetty behind Radisson Blue Hotel to the Snake Island, a journey that lasted about 35 minutes under what appeared to have been a calm and fair weather condition. Prior to commencing the official tour, Engr. Kingsley Nnodu gave a safety briefing to the guests emphasizing Kaztec’s commitment to safety in the workplace. All guests including the honorable Minister and Permanent Secretary showed exemplary leadership by wearing a safety cap and certified safety boots.

During the tour, the Minister pledged the support of the Federal Government towards the success of Kaztec’s fabrication facility on Snake Island. He stated that the benefit of the fabrication facility to the oil and gas sector economy and others are in his words “quite enormous.” Speaking on potential job creation, he said; “Clearly, jobs would be created directly and indirectly. In addition to the wealth that will be accrued to the investor directly, there is the ripple effect to the economy generally because we are going to save a lot. A lot of capital flight is going to be curtailed.”

Reacting to the question posed by the media on his overall assessment of Kaztec efforts, Senator Umar summarily employed two key words; “Impressive and Fantastic”. You can follow more report on the site tour by clicking on Vanguard Newspaper link below:
